My family in the war

Welcome to my blog!

Our class topic this term is WW2. I have been learning about children living in the Blitz and what life was like between 1939-1945. I am writing this blog to share all the interesting WW2 facts, stories and trips I have been on.

Family

I have been told lots of stories by my family about the role my grandma and grandpa played in during WW2.

My grandpa was 11 years old when the war first began in 1939. He was evacuated with his little brother out of London to the countryside, where they stayed with a friendly family in a small town. When my grandpa was 16 he began training as a pilot for the RAF. Luckily, the war ended on the 8th May 1945, 2 months before he finished his training as a pilot. I am glad he did not have to go and fight!

During the war my grandma worked in an orphanage. She had to cook for lots of children using small amounts of food because of rationing. She also told me that at night time she would have to go outside with a bucket of water to put out incendary bombs (bombs that start fires) that dropped near the orphanage. She was a fire guard.

Thanks for reading everyone.
